Basic Positions
BACK AND NECK
Lie on your back with either your legs stretched out on the floor or with bent knees and heels placed up near your buttocks, so that your lower back is in contact with the Shakti Mat. It is beneficial to place a small neck pillow underneath your Shakti Mat so that the back of your neck is fully supported.
Effect: Stimulates acupressure points and nerves radiating from the vertebra along the spine.
FACE AND JAW
Lay your cheek gently against the mat. In the beginning, you may place a very thin piece of cloth between your face and the mat. After a couple of treatments, the cloth may be removed.
Effect: Loosens tension in the jaw and neck areas and brings new radiance to the face.
ABDOMEN
Lie on your stomach with your arms stretched out alongside your body or under your head with the palms of your hands facing down, as depicted. Women can opt to place the Shakti Mat below their bosom, if needed.
Effect: Releases tension in the diaphragm and the respiratory musculature.
LOWER BACK, HIPS and BUTTOCKS
Place the Shakti Mat under your lower back and buttocks. In the beginning, thin cotton panties may be used. When you have become accustomed to the treatment, you can optimize your results by lying on the Shakti Mat with bare skin.
Effect: Eases tension in the lower back, hips and buttocks while also contributing to increased stability and energy. The lower back and buttocks are often very tense, so it is very important to work on relaxing the muscles located here.
